Personally I really enjoy cardio so I always do it after weightlifting. I don’t do any leg weight lifting like squats because I find that it makes my legs too stiff and sore to go for a good run.
I can’t sing the praises of yoga enough. I practice daily and am working towards my teacher certificate. The strength and flexibility you gain from yoga is tremendous and will also translate directly into weight lifting benefits. There is also improved balance, injury prevention, mental relaxation, etc. When you first start out (probably free classes at the gym) you will look like an awkward spaz. It takes a few months for the body to slowly adjust to being limber. Keep with it, do it several times a week, and you will progress quickly. Wharrghabl mentioned hot yoga, which is fun, but you don’t get to do the fun [arm and headstands that you get to do in *real* yoga. As for being a dude, so am I. It is great, you are in a room with 20 hot fit girls in spandex. What isn’t to like about that? Specifically for running, I don’t know how you people can even function, you are the tightest group of people on the planet. Yoga should be a legal requirement for anyone who runs.
I taught in college only for a short while as a transitonal job.I am a pure-minded Harley rider, enjoying only the fresh air and the sensation of flying withut wings. swim in cold water only from September to October, after which I move indoors. I never was a fighter like Wing and never trained to be one. I guess my weight lifting and chi combinedly help me in some defense and five curves. I am a Padi certified scuba diver and enjoy the under water.I am not versatile.
I have been training in Kick Boxing for a almost a year and a half. It’s an amazing cardio workout as well as building core strength and improving flexibility. I train 4 days a week so don’t feel the need to do any additional cardio. On my days off at the weekend I typically add one or two weight lifting sessions just to add a bit of power
Yes–weight training benefits everyone!
I like BodyPump. For me the pro’s are: – It is fun, an hour of weight lifting goes by fast – The group dynamic challenges me to not quit and to work harder – Get a full body work out – Use the mirror and instructor for help correcting form for exercises like clean and press – It is nice to let someone make up your routine that day, just go in for a surprise Cons – It is full body workout. (pro and a con) This can get in the way of your lifting schedule if you planned to do a certain muscle group the next day and need more recovery – Classes are often crowded – It takes an hour
Raw juicing is Great, but what about Muscle building and strength and weight lifting ? I see so many thin raw fooders. What about Collagen for the body? sources I know are not vegetarian. I'd like to see more videos on muscle building especially since many people are doing Resolutions back to the gym…. THANKS!
I would say that diet and exercise are pretty equivalent in getting lasting results from weight loss, and improving a person’s actual physical fitness. I can’t agree that any aspect of getting fit (diet, cardio, weight lifting, stretching) is more important than any of the others-with that you run the risk of focusing on one more, and then you lose the holistic effect on your body.
Hey do you have a weight lifting schedule on your blog? I want to follow what you're doing to see if its best for me.
> I wouldn’t discourage cardio for weight loss at all but it has been proven that weight lifting burns more calories in the same amount of time **if done at a similar intensity.** How do you compare intensity between cardio and weight lifting?
That's a myth. Weight lifting can damage your bones and muscles if you have the wrong form. It's just a myth because their parents don't want them to lift, or just to cheap to buy weights. Weight lifting can actually make you taller, since it's strengthening your bones and muscles.
