Protecting Against Foot Cramps

Foot cramps can be quite painful and may stand as a barrier in carrying out daily activities due to the consistent pain and inability to move it. The duration of these cramps may sometimes be for only a couple of minutes, or in some cases may be as long as days. A pull of the muscle or injury is usually what causes it.

Most of the time, one experiences cramps of the foot in the arch, toes or big toe, legs and calf. One may end up with a cramp because of a variety of causes such as not engaging in any sort of exercise or spending the whole day in a job for example, that involves sitting at the desk only. In addition, obesity may be one reason.

On the other hand, an increase in the amount of workout may also lead to it, which is why athletes usually end up with cramps. No matter what the cause may be, various methods can be adopted in order to cure it. These include the following:

To begin with, let your foot be in such an angle that is away from that of the cramp, and seize it in that position for some time until you feel the pain going away. Also, try massaging your foot when kept in such a position for around five to ten minutes, as this may result in a soothing effect.

For people who have ended up with a cramp due to getting involved in too harsh exercise, it is best to apply ice packs immediately. If the cramp is just too severe and the pain becomes difficult to bear, you may try using heat over it, for like three times in a day.

Usually, giving your foot some exercise that is too light in nature greatly helps, such as carrying it up till your waist. Moreover, try using an elastic bandage over it as that works well too.

Try to rest as long as you can once you have a cramp, as this is usually the best way to cure it. Being in bed instead of stressing your foot is the best thing to do.
