OK. This is part two of my famous ( or infamous) two-parter for Muscle Building Secrets. Here are some of my closely held secrets that should be obvious to most people’s common sense… But you know what they say, “Common sense isn’t so common.”

(Sigh) Let’s just move on huh?

Do Not Train More Than Two Days In A Row:

As you probably know from reading my articles about my favorite punching bag — the bodybuilding magazines. Well, let me say my 2 cents again — They suck, they’re misleading, they’re confusing and they really promote their own brands of supplements.

And then they come up with a dozy! Something about splitting up your training program into five separate days. The problem with that system is even though you only worked on one set of muscles one day, for instance, your legs, it doesn’t necessarily mean that your body recovered from the workout. Sure your legs are tired, but all of your other systems in your body hasn’t recovered from the intense workout yet. Your hormones, your central nervous system, your immune system and so on…

In short, if you beat up your legs one day and then started an intense workout on your chest the next day and THEN you decide to work on your arms the third day… you may be working on a new set of muscles but the rest of your body is still reeling from the previous 2 days of workouts.

Simply, you’re over training!

Your level of fitness won’t improve because you are drawing from depleted energy reserves. You will struggle to lift more weights.

So the rule of thumb is to listen to your body and take a FULL DAY of rest between two consecutive days of punishing workouts. You will give your body a chance to recharge itself so you can jump back on that horse full of vim and vigor!

Take Your Rear End Home if Your Body Isn’t Pumped and Ready to Go:

Dude… if you feel like crap. It is your body telling you that it hasn’t fully recovered yet from the previous workout. If you ignore your body… and continue to over train — you run the risk of injury. All for barely minimal results because if your body is weak — you aren’t going to have a good workout. That means very, little benefits.

So why are you still in the gym? Because your friends are telling you to tough it out? And will they pay for your medical expenses when you have to see a specialist to fix your broken body parts?

I don’t think so!

So, if you don’t feel strong when you first start your set — get your rear end home and rest. Live to fight another day — at your MAXIMUM power!

Get A Mentor:

The best of the best in every sport has a mentor. A fitness coach, a personal trainer, or a workout partner. Getting someone who can be your mentor can really explode your muscle growth! It stands to reason that if you hang out with successful bodybuilders, their thoughts, approaches and methods will rub off on you.

And getting a live mentor is FAR superior than reading bodybuilding magazines, websites, and text books. Truth be told, the real world experience wins every time over theory.

In fact, when you read the annual issue of the Forbe’s magazine about Billionaires… you will see most of these rich folks didn’t inherit their wealth. They had to earn it. And surprisingly, a lot of them only have a high school degree. Some of them dropped out of HS to start working in the real world. Many of them never finished college. The most famous would be Bill Gates, the 2nd richest man in United States (but never count him out). He dropped out of Harvard, I think.

However, I am not suggesting that you drop out of school… I’m just trying to make a point. Getting real world experience trumps over theory all the time.

Choose your mentor wisely. You want someone who will give you great advice at the right times. And don’t waste your mentor’s time because he will walk away. If you get the right mentor, and follow his advice… I guarantee you… your muscle building results will astonish you!
