  2. From a physiological point of view, the Leangains approach incorporates controlled overfeeding and underfeeding in a strategic manner that may provide superior nutrient partitioning effects. I’m saying “may” because it’s impossible to find hard evidence for this in the scientific literature. But in practical terms, you are providing a surplus of calories at a time where they are most likely to be used for muscle building and recovery. As protein synthesis levels off, so does calorie intake. I don’t think it’s a far-fetched hypothesis that timing overfeeding in this manner would be beneficial for body composition. In bodybuilding lingo, you’re basically bulking for one third of the day and cutting for two thirds of the day. Furthermore, the strategic refeeds provides a timely leptin-boost that may be of benefit to fat loss, metabolic rate, and other parameters related to leptin (such as libido, testosterone, etc). It is also interesting to speculate whether there is any synergy of intermittent fasting and refeeding after workouts. I could talk a lot about this topic and I will elaborate more when the time comes.

  4. There could have been a few reason’s he didn’t like the study, and that is a completely valid response. It could have been the diet used by the participants in the study It could have been the routine in the study It could be because it made the mistake that correlation = equal’s causation There are numerous reasons why, especially since most studies say if you’re trying to lose weight you shouldn’t skip breakfast. One of the things the studies does not mention for example is the time the people work out. (I only skimmed it so if I’m mistaking sorry) IMO this is huge, as there is a big different fasting before working out if you work out at 5pm, compared to working out at 6am after just waking up, which again, would be another legitimate reason to not like the study. I’ve also heard fasting before working out is great for overall weight loss (however not muscle building), but I’ve also read studies that say eating breakfast actually increases the rate at which you lose as well. So him saying “I don’t like it” is a completely legit response, and he might just not have known how to articulate it. Be open minded while working out, because everyone’s body is different, and responds differently, if you’re willing to use a personal trainer, you have to be willing to accept their advice, if you’re not going to and only going to use things based on what you read on the internet, you’re probably not going to find any of them helpful as they might recommend a routine that is against the norm etc. You’re best bet with working out will be trial/error/deep squats/oats
