There are 5 basic strength training workout that everyone should try. If you are at all interested in building great muscle and increasing your strength you need to know these exercises. In fact you should actually center all of your workouts around these key exercises.
There is one thing that these exercises have in common. They are all compound movement exercises, this is important because compound movement exercises are by far the most important type of workout to every aspiring strength trainer. It does not matter if you are 150 lbs just looking to put on a few extra pounds of muscle to be able to compete better in your Sunday pickup game, or if you are a 250 lbs bodybuilder looking to compete in actual competitions, one thing remains the same, you must build great strength before you can build great muscle.
This is where compound movement exercises come into play, these are the exercises that really build great strength because you are using movements that are natural to the body.
The list of the 5 basic strength training workout that should be the center of everyones workout plan are broken down between your upper and lower body.
For your lower body the two exercises are squats and deadlifts. Squats are by far the most important exercise in any strength training routine. This is because your legs are the largest muscle group in the body, and squats work your legs like no other exercise. When working your legs with squats your body will release testosterone to help build muscle mass, because your legs are the largest muscle groups your body will release a ton of testosterone. The best part is that the testosterone will be in your blood stream and will reach all parts of the body. Essentially your legs will help your upper body grow.
The exercises for your upper body are over head press, bench press and rows. While most people know about the bench press, often the overhead press is forgotten by beginners. This is a huge mistake. The over head press is essentially the squat of the upper body. This exercise will hit more muscle groups than any other upper body exercise and it is essential to the growth of your upper body.
If you are not currently working out with these exercises as your centerpiece then you should stop right away and write out a new workout plan with these in the mix. They are that important to the development of your muscle strength.
